Yankees Trade for RHP Enyel De Los Santos in Deal with Padres

The New York Yankees have bolstered their bullpen ahead of the trade deadline, acquiring right-hander Enyel De Los Santos and minor league pitcher Thomas Balboni Jr. from the San Diego Padres. In exchange, the Yankees sent minor league outfielder Brandon Lockridge to San Diego.

Enyel De Los Santos, 28, brings a wealth of experience to the Yankees' relief corps. Having made 44 appearances for the Padres this season, De Los Santos has posted a 4.46 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP, striking out 48 batters in 40.1 innings pitched. His most recent outing was against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, where he delivered two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out four.

This marks De Los Santos' sixth year in the majors, having previously played for the Philadelphia Phillies and Cleveland Guardians before joining the Padres this season. Throughout his career, he has amassed a 14-6 record, a 4.25 ERA, and a 1.29 WHIP, including two saves, with one coming this season.

Joining De Los Santos in the deal is Thomas Balboni Jr., 24, who has had a solid season with Single-A Lake Elsinore. Balboni Jr. has gone 4-1 with two saves and a 4.46 ERA in 30 relief appearances.

Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman has been active in reshaping the bullpen in recent weeks. In addition to acquiring De Los Santos, the Yankees have also picked up Mark Leiter Jr. from the Chicago Cubs. Furthermore, the team traded left-hander Caleb Ferguson to the Houston Astros for a prospect and bonus pool money.

The most significant move made by the Yankees at this deadline, however, was the acquisition of outfielder/infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins over the weekend. These moves highlight the Yankees' commitment to strengthening their roster for a deep playoff run.
