Mom Attempts Olympic Gymnastics in Her Kitchen and Her Performance Goes Viral

In the world of Olympic gymnastics, moves like the handstand, the switch leap, and the Shushunova are performed with precision and grace. But one Vancouver mom has brought these high-level routines into her own kitchen, and her performance has taken the internet by storm.

Breanne Allarie, a mother of two from British Columbia, recently posted a video on Instagram showcasing her gymnastic skills in her kitchen. The video, which has garnered over 22 million views, shows Allarie effortlessly executing a series of gymnastics moves, including the challenging Shushunova.

"I just pulled out the mat and put on my swimsuit. And I was like, ‘Let’s go,’" Allarie recalls. She mentions that it took only "all of five minutes" for her husband, Jordan Allarie, to film the impressive sequence.

Allarie's journey into gymnastics is not a recent one. "I was in intense gymnastics competitively until I was about 14 years old," she explains. "Originally, I really wanted to go to the Olympics. And then as I got older, I was like, 'OK, maybe not the Olympics, but a full-ride scholarship.' That was the goal."

However, her Olympic dreams were nearly shattered when, during a major competition, she landed on her neck and fractured her back. "Honestly, I was so lucky that I could still walk," she reflects. After recovering, Allarie shifted her focus to dancing and eventually went pro, performing on cruise ships and at Tokyo Disney.

With the birth of her children—now aged 4 and 6—Allarie took a step back from performing but has found a new outlet for her creativity as an online content creator. "Of the skills I attempt in the video, the Shushunova was the most difficult," she admits. "That's the one where I jump into the air and you pretty much land flat. Everybody was like, 'Why are you doing a belly flop?' But it's actually a legit gymnastics move called the Shushunova."

Despite the challenges, Allarie's video has resonated with millions, inspiring comments about her bravery and talent. "I just feel like I could do it," she says of her can-do attitude. "No, Allarie did not, in fact, attempt a backflip that day. It has been a very long time since I've done some of those moves. Probably not since I was 14," she admits. "I really did want to try the backflip, but I think it is probably for the best I didn't."

Allarie's message is clear: "I think it's just about me being me. And the world can either take it or leave it." She hopes to inspire others, especially midsize moms, to embrace their abilities and pursue their passions. "My 4-year-old son watched her film the sequence. He said, "'I give you a gold, Mom!'"

Breanne Allarie's viral kitchen gymnastics performance is a testament to her resilience and talent, reminding us all that dreams and skills can be revisited and celebrated, no matter where we are in life.
