Title: Man Arrested for Multi-State Asphalt Paving Scheme after Smith County Investigation
SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – A coordinated effort by Smith County authorities has led to the arrest of Timothy Mark Adams, a man accused of orchestrating an extensive asphalt paving scam across multiple states. Adams, who allegedly fled Smith County in 2020 after defrauding an elderly couple, was apprehended in a Florida RV park following a tip-off to his whereabouts.
The investigation into Adams began when an elderly couple reported hiring him through a Facebook advertisement for asphalt paving in March 2020. The couple claimed they paid Adams $3,000 in advance for work that was never completed. This initial report prompted a deeper dive by Smith County authorities, who discovered a pattern of similar scams involving Adams in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Texas.
Smith County investigators worked closely with law enforcement agencies in Hoover, Alabama, and other jurisdictions to piece together the scope of Adams' operations. This collaborative effort resulted in two felony warrants and a grand jury indictment against Adams, who had allegedly sent a threatening message to one of his victims before disappearing.
Smith County Fraud Investigator John Partlow played a crucial role in tracking Adams to an RV park in Taylor County, Florida. After liaising with local officials, Adams was located and taken into custody on multiple warrants. He is currently awaiting extradition to Smith County to face charges.
Partlow emphasized the prevalence of asphalt driveway scams, noting that they are among the most common types of fraud, costing victims thousands of dollars annually. He advised the public to exercise caution when hiring contractors for home repair services, recommending thorough background checks and avoiding upfront payments unless necessary for material costs.
This case underscores the importance of vigilance and cooperation among law enforcement agencies in combating cross-state fraud schemes. As Adams awaits extradition, the investigation continues to ensure justice for all victims affected by his alleged scams.
