American Woman Found Chained to Tree in Indian Forest for 40 Days

In a shocking revelation, an American woman, Lalita Kayi Kumar, 49, was discovered chained to a tree in a forest near Sonurli village, Goa, after enduring 40 days of unimaginable ordeal. The discovery has sparked a manhunt for her former husband, who is now accused of attempted murder.

Lalita Kumar was found by a local shepherd who had been hearing her cries for several days. Upon rescue, she was unable to speak and communicated her ordeal through a written note. In the note, she alleged that her ex-husband had left her to die in the forest and that she had been without food for 40 days. She further claimed that she was administered an "injection for extreme psychosis" which caused her severe jaw lock and inability to drink water.

Ms. Kumar was found with her legs tied to the tree, but her hands were unbound. A police officer noted that she was too weak to unchain herself. There were visible marks of numerous injuries on her body, and she was dressed in a see-through raincoat, an olive green shirt, and worn-out brown trousers.

Police have registered a case of attempted murder against her former husband, who is believed to have chained her up before escaping. Investigations are ongoing, with police interviewing relatives of the couple to gather more information.

Following her rescue, Ms. Kumar was transferred to Goa Medical College for specialist treatment. Doctors have expressed concerns about her mental health, noting that she is suffering from severe depression and other mental health illnesses. Medical prescriptions found in her possession suggest that she was on antidepressants.

Documents discovered on Ms. Kumar indicate that she was a resident of Tamil Nadu, a south Indian state approximately 600 miles away from the forest where she was found. It is believed that she had been living in India for the past decade.

This harrowing incident has drawn attention to the plight of individuals who fall victim to extreme forms of abuse and underscores the importance of ensuring their safety and well-being. The ongoing manhunt for her former husband is expected to bring justice to Lalita Kumar and provide closure to her traumatic experience.
