Trump Calls Harris 'A Bum' and 'A Failed Vice President'
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — In a fiery address at Turning Point Action’s Believers Summit, former President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on Vice President Kamala Harris, labeling her a “bum” and a “failed vice president.” This marks Trump’s second public speech since President Joe Biden exited the race, and his comments were a continuation of his longstanding criticisms of the Biden administration.
Trump's remarks centered on immigration and criminal justice, asserting that Harris has failed in her role as the “border czar.” “She was a bum three weeks ago. She was a bum. A failed vice president in a failed administration, with millions of people crossing, and she was the border czar,” Trump declared, echoing sentiments he has previously expressed about Biden.
Much of Trump’s critique mirrored the Republican Party's broader narrative, which often includes unsubstantiated claims that Democrats are steering the country toward socialism or Marxism. He accused Harris of poorly managing the southern border and suggested that she harbors anti-Semitic sentiments, despite her husband, Doug Emhoff, being the first Jewish spouse of a vice president and actively combating antisemitism.
The White House has countered Republican claims regarding Harris’ role, clarifying that her focus has been on addressing the root causes of migration in Central America rather than solely managing the crisis at the southern border. Trump, however, sought to link Harris to her past as San Francisco’s district attorney, warning that her election would lead to the appointment of “extreme far-left judges” who would impose liberal values across the nation.
In a bid to galvanize religious voters, Trump urged them to increase their turnout in the upcoming elections, stating, “You have tremendous power, you just don’t know that. You have to use that power.” He emphasized the importance of Christian voters, encouraging them to mobilize for what he promised would be a transformative election.
Responding to Trump’s comments, Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, emphasized that the former president was advocating for unity and prosperity, contrasting his message with the divisive political climate. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Harris’ campaign criticized Trump’s speech, claiming he struggled with basic pronunciation and insulted the faith of Jewish and Catholic Americans.
This event also marked a notable moment for Trump, as he appeared without the ear bandage that had been a result of an assassination attempt he survived in Pennsylvania two weeks prior. He humorously noted his recovery, stating, “I think you can see I’ve recovered well and in fact just took off the last bandage off of my ear,” while claiming he “took a bullet for democracy.”
As the political landscape continues to evolve, Trump’s remarks signal a renewed focus on Harris as a target for Republican criticism, setting the stage for a contentious election season ahead.
